History and Heritage

In 1524, a brewery came into being in the “Lion’s Ditch” in Munich that would later become world famous: Löwenbrau. Its heyday came in the nineteenth century when Georg Brey, the owner from 1818, led the brewery into the industrial age and onto its present site(1851). At the turn of the century Löwenbrau was the largest brewery in Germany and a leading exporter of beer. Even after two world wars, with all their attendant destruction and rebuilding, Löwenbrau has maintained its status as one of Germany’s outstanding breweries with a unique position on the world market.

The Art of Bavarian Beer

All over the globe, the name of Löwenbrau has become a byword for Bavarian beer. Bavaria’s brewing tradition has a long history. As early as 1516 the Bavarian Purity Law was decreed, enjoining brewers to use only three raw materials in their beer: malt, hops and water. Obligated to obey this ‘”olden rule”, Bavaria’s brewers took a leading role in the development and spread of beer throughout Germany and the world. The Löwenbrau Lion has always marched at the head of the pack. It personifies the Bavarian brewing tradition at its finest - and the craftsmanship that has made that tradition successful throughout the world.

A Beer like Bavaria

In a world of rapid change, longstanding values are crucially important. Pristine nature and tradition combined with cutting-edge technology: that is what Bavaria and its beer stand for. The quintessence of Bavarian beer is Löwenbrau. In its brand image, Löwenbrau hearkens back to true values and impressively shows Bavaria at its most beautiful - with stories that amazingly and accurately capture the uniqueness of this country and its people.

Hospitality and Beer Culture

Visitors sense it immediately, and locals come to appreciate it anew everyday: the unique flair of Bavarian hospitality. Over the centuries, a restaurant culture has arisen without equal in the world. It can’t be described, it has to be experienced: an afternoon beneath spreading chestnut trees in one of Munich’s large beer gardens, a visit to the Oktoberfest or an evening at a cozy Bavarian inn. And one thing should never be forgotten: a glass of refreshing Lowenbrau.

From Bavaria to the Entire World

There are many brands of beer in the world, but few can boast of Löwenbrau’s distinguished international reputation. By the end of the nineteenth century Löwenbrau had already become the leading export brewery in Germany. The “Lion” conquered the world long ago - and wrote history in the process: on dirigibles, in the skyscraper canyons of New York or in the alleys of Verona. Whether exported directly or brewed on location by licensing agreement, Löwenbrau retains its superb quality everywhere in the world.
