A Historic Beer
The origins of weiss beer go back ancient times, with the art of brewing becoming a prerogative of the Bavarian ruling noblemen in the Middle Ages. Today, Bavaria’s breweries are world leaders in the production of weiss beer. Brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law, Franziskaner Weissbier is one of the top examples of the art. Its name can be traced back to the oldest privately-owned brewery in Munich, founded in 1363 next to Franciscan monastery. In 1922, Franziskaner-Leist Brewery and Spaten Brewery merged to form today’s Spaten-Franziskaner Brewery.
